She’s got a big brain and is super smart….right?!

Well, we went in for an ultrasound and another check up with my OB today and the results weren’t very promising in terms of hoping she’s small: – Estimated fetal weight = 9.8lbs!!!!! (puts her in the upper 90th percentile) – Head circumference = 367mm (equivalent to a 43.5 week old fetus — ack!!!) At first, we thought it was her estimated weight that would throw our OB off — but surprisingly, she said that if it was just the weight alone, she wouldn’t recommend a C-Section….mainly because it’s an estimated weight and plenty of women have delivered 9-10lb babies.  What really actually concerned her was the one accurate measurement:…

    First Post-Due-Date Appointment

Well, I’m 2 days overdue today and had an OB appointment today to see what are next steps.  First off — mom and baby are still healthy: – Blood pressure = 118/66 – Heartbeat = 130bpm – 1.5cm dilated – 60% effaced So my body is ready for this baby to come when she’s ready.  Now the not as great news — she’s still measuring a week ahead.  Right now, she’s measuring at 41.5 weeks.  Also, while attempting the membrane sweep, my OB commented on how high up she still is in my uterus…which, at this point, is a concern in that her head might be too big!  Ack! I’m…

    40 weeks: I’m due!

This is what 40 weeks looks like.  Today is my official due date and within 1 hour, I will be officially OVERDUE.  Ugh.  Oh well.  They DO say that often with the first child, it comes late…and I keep hearing that it’s more so with girls, yadda yadda.  I still feel really good and had enough energy to indulge in some Mediterranean Kitchen for lunch, walk around Bellevue Square in the afternoon (this was my “long walk” for the day) and then indulge at Cafe Campagne for dinner for Seattle Restaurant Week.  I have really really mild contractions here and there–I barely notice them, just a slight tightening of my…

Weekend Wrapup: Tulip Festival and Art Restaurant

After living in Seattle for nearly 11 years, I FINALLY visited the Tulip Festival with my parents yesterday— figured one way to help with inducing labor was long walks so why not do it amongst a field of gorgeous tulips?  We drove an hour up north to La Conner, WA and went over to Tulip Town, one of two places where you can view the fields of tulips.  We were lucky with the weather as we had no idea what to expect—it was sunny and gorgeous in Seattle but pouring rain in Everett…luckily, by the time we go to La Conner, it was nice and sunny with patches of clouds. …

    Signs of labor….

We just went out for a really nice meal at Nell’s on Greenlake and we all got the tasting menu.  I was doing fine until we were eating the main course, a rack of lamb (which tasted delicious).  I didn’t have any problems with the lamb or the potatoes…but when I bit into one mushroom and one TINY piece of asparagus, I suddenly got this wave of nausea that was incredibly hard to suppress.  Matt even started rubbing my back to help me feel better and I (in his words) violently jerked his hand away and held onto it tightly as I went into a very concentrated moment of zen. …

39 week appointment — still pregnant!

I’m still pregnant.  This waiting game is so annoying!  I think the fact that I’m not physically going to work — as much as I love it — is making me aware of the long hours that are going by as well.  I was really hoping she’d be out by now as I have such a fear of her being this huge baby if I deliver her after my due date. (my OB said once that she’d be a good 8 pounder if I went to my due date)  Meanwhile, I just have to be patient and wait and wait.  My weekly checkup was yesterday and stats are still pretty…

    Yay Conan

Last night, we got a chance to watch Conan O’Brien live at McCaw Hall and it was a great show!  We’ve always been huge fans of his show and we didn’t blink an eye when we heard he was coming to Seattle.  He had a number of his classics, though revamped since there are legal questions regarding the exact ownership of these concepts — including the “Self Pleasuring Panda” and the “Chuck Norris Rural Policeman Handle” (those of you that know the originals should get the references easily) plus Andy Richter and Triumph the Insult Comic dog.  It was an added bonus the fact that it also happened to be…

    38 week appointment — just waiting…

Stats from today’s OB appointment Blood pressure = 110/62 Baby’s heartbeat around 135/140bpm 50% effaced still 1-1.5cm dilated Measuring ~39cm…so still about a week ahead  Baby is still heads down and things are still fine.  I just have to keep waiting.  I’m hoping she’ll come next week so she isn’t too big.  I’m a little bummed—I was curious about my OB’s oncall schedule and she’s oncall next Tuesday and then not again until May 7th….so the chances of her being the attendant oncall when I go into labor is pretty unlikely…but hey, that’s why I chose this practice because of the great reputations of all of their OBs. Parents arrive…

A new way to watch movies

On Saturday, we decided to have a “date night” by going out to watch Date Night.  Originally, we were going to use one of the movie theater gift certificates we bought through Costco…but then I read that the movie was showing at this theater I’ve been wanting to check out for awhile, the Cinebarre Theater which is a little north of us.  It was a great experience!  It’s a 21+ theater because there’s a bar right when you walk in.  Theater rooms are set up with comfy seats with tables in front of them where you can order from a full food and bar menu—we split mozzarella sticks and pizza…

    37 weeks — Full Term!

On Monday, I officially hit 37 weeks and am therefore “full term”. What does that mean? Before I got pregnant, I had no idea there was a difference — but there is. A woman’s due date is based on 40 weeks and she’s considered “full term” at 37 weeks. What that basically means is that if the baby is born now, its lungs are mature enough to survive outside the womb without needing to be hooked up to any machines. In other words, from 37 weeks on, a woman could give birth and it’s unlikely the baby will need to spend anytime in the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit)—before that,…
