    First couple weeks of parenthood

    Now that I’ve gotten the birth story out of the way, how is parenthood going?  All in all, in the wide range of all things newborn, things have gone really well: she’s healthy (i.e. no jaundice, no feeding issues, etc..), she’s been eating well (good latch!), we’ve had a lot of support with my parents being here and my c-section recovery is going well and on track.  Her pediatric appointments have gone well and she’s on track to being back at her birth weight (she may already be by now!)  She’s also pooping and peeing as expected — like a machine!  I never expected her poops to be as audible…

    Natalie’s Birth Story

    Short Birth Story Despite being scheduled for a c-section on Tuesday, I ended up going into labor on my own Monday morning, beginning at 4am.  By 9:30am I was at the OB’s office, 10am my water broke and 11:30am I had an epidural in and relief came.  I progressed really well but stalled out for a really long time as baby stopped descending.  After monitoring me and seeing how baby’s heartrate reacted to some of my stronger contractions, we made the call to have a c-section.  Thus, after 14 hours of labor, I got prepped and wheeled into the surgical room where Natalie was born.  Turns out the reason she…

    Introducing Natalie Wei-Sum

    Sorry I haven’t posted in awhile…but as you can imagine, I was a little busy……..delivering and then taking care of our newborn baby!!!!  My birth story is crazy considering the days leading up to it, but for now, let me post the e-mail that we sent out to friends and family: Hi everyone, It’s been a long day but we’d love to proudly announce the birth of our newborn daughter, Natalie Wei-Sum Sousa, born at 6:43pm, May 3rd, 2010. 7 lbs 4 oz 20 inches long She is doing so wonderfully and has a full head of hair!  We are so in love with her and hope that you’ll have…
