    Sleep! (or lack thereof…)

Everyone knows that with a newborn baby, your sleep goes out the door…that’s because newborn babies need to eat every 2-3 hours and you’re constantly up feeding, changing diapers, soothing back to sleep; however, once they regain their birth weight, pediatricians will tell you to just let them sleep as long as they want at night to establish the circadian rhythm.  That sounds great except that babies will typically continue wanting to feed regularly and will still continue to wake up…but eventually, their bodies will start sleeping longer and longer.  We think we’ve finally turned the corner and she’s sleeping a bit longer. Matt and I have worked out a…

Summer is finally here! (I hope)

The summer in Seattle has kicked off to a horrible start as it’s been unseasonably drab and cold; however, this week the sun finally came out and we got some fabulous weather — like, I can wear a tank top and shorts type of weather…and man, I was hot!!  What’s sad is — temperatures were just in the upper 70’s and I can’t imagine how I’m going to deal when we go to Las Vegas next week!  So with the great weather, I’ve been going out with Natalie a ton more.  We went to our first post-natal yoga class together at 8 Limbs Yoga, which is conveniently within walking distance. …

How to spend my time alone with baby

It’s been 2 weeks since my parents left and with the weather mostly being drab and rainy, I haven’t had much motivation to leave the house.  The few days that the weather has been nice and sunny, I’ve taken some walks or quick trips to the UVillage on my own.  Well, hopefully, Mother Nature will be nice and give us a summer soon…which has gotten me thinking about ways to spend my time during the day aside from being inside and just watching a movie (which is still great!).  I wanted to note some of my research before I forget: Meet other moms! I’ve joined PEPS which is a great,…

    iPad love

Thanks to my wonderful husband, I’m now an iPad owner.  It’s funny, when this first came out, I laughed.  I thought it was ridiculous.  It looked like one giant iPhone (which it essentially is) and I thought it was the dumbest thing.  I had no idea why anyone would spend the money on this when they could buy a decent laptop for the same price.  Fast forward to 4am on any given random night in the month of May while I’m sitting in the nursery breastfeeding Natalie and fumbling with one hand to maneuver my laptop so that I could do something to prevent myself from falling asleep.  I thought…

    world of swaddling

Every new parent will learn soon enough that swaddling is one of the key techniques to soothing a fussy baby (in addition to shushing, sucking and swinging/rocking).  There are tons of swaddling products out there in the market and we love swaddling so much that I’ve gone out and gotten a bunch of different types of products.  I thought I’d just list them out with my impressions so far for future reference (keep in mind every baby is different and some will take to certain products better than others.  We are fortunate in that Natalie has been fine with all of these, so this is simply a review based on…

    One month in

I just dropped my parents off at the airport — that makes their total stay about 7 weeks.  Seems long but to me, it feels cut short as I find myself suddenly feeling alone without them.  Their visit has been a blessing but also bad as I started developing a routine that was dependent on their presence.  For example, my father wakes up really early.  For me, when I happen to have that 5am feeding and then want to do a quick pump afterwards, it’s been convenient to give Natalie to my father (who loved having that time with her in the morning) to get her to fall back asleep…
